Figure Skating Study of Toe Loop and Layback

Liquid forms behind the sharpened blade,

Icy surface heated by chilled metal.

The cold hum of slicing edges,

A violent screech of toe pick

Then corkscrewing into the air

An eternal spin upwards

To a still moment of bliss before

A single blade groans under pressure

A thin line impacting the plane

And an effortless landing glide

A quiet waltz continues, building

Turns upon the shiny mirror

one two three, one two three

Quiet violins and trumpets mesh

Hissing blades gain speed

Elegant profile as my head drops and foot rises

While steel spins around itself

Long extension and a stop

Blade dusted with snow
